BSV Wallet Backend Adds Recovery for Interrupted Registration Payments

In Brief

The Wallet Authentication Backend (WAB) software for BSV wallets has added a way to recover starter payments left unresolved during registration. It checks and reuses the original payment so an interrupted response need not leave account setup stuck.

News Report

WAB version 1.8.18 was published on November 4, 2026. The project reports that the update passed checks in staging, its pre-production environment. Its latest release update still holds production deployment for final operator validation, so availability of the software does not establish that existing wallet services have adopted it.

WAB helps wallet applications handle sign-in and account recovery. It can also give eligible newcomers a small, one-time BSV payment to get started. The new recovery process addresses a gap between creating that payment and successfully returning it to the registration process.

When the Payment Exists but Setup Cannot Continue

A wallet service can save a signed starter payment, then encounter an error or lose the response before WAB records the payment as ready. The registration remains unfinished, while its reserved grant prevents another payment from being issued.

The update looks for the existing payment after an uncertain funding response and when the same registration retries. New payments carry a reference that connects them to the saved registration record. Because that record survives a server restart, recovery can continue after the process that created the payment has stopped.

Checking Before Resuming

WAB checks that the recovered transaction matches the reserved amount and payment conditions. It also verifies the supporting transaction history and signatures before asking the wallet to submit the same signed transaction.

A successful result lets WAB return that payment to the registration process. Repeated or simultaneous retries reuse it without allocating another grant. Automatic recovery can also handle an accepted transaction that has not yet been included in a block.

The contribution includes automated tests for lost responses, server replacement, simultaneous retries and rejection of invalid payment evidence.

Where Recovery Still Stops

Recovery remains pending when the required information is unavailable, contradictory or fails verification. Older payments without the new reference can be found through a limited search of wallet history, but incomplete or ambiguous results require support.

A separate administrator-only recovery route can reconnect a registration with its original payment after that transaction has been confirmed in a block. It checks the payment against the saved registration details and preserves the record that the one-time grant has been used.

This recovery change does not require a database migration. Operators still need to deploy the updated service, and unresolved registrations need to retain their original recovery state.

BSV TIMES Read

A newcomer is unlikely to know whether signup stalled in the identity service, wallet storage or the payment network. Keeping the original registration usable allows the software to handle more of that uncertainty without asking the person to start again.

The practical improvement is a checked route back into an interrupted setup process. Its reach will depend on operators adopting the update and on the original payment evidence remaining available.

Developer Context

Brayden Langley authored the recovery contribution, while Ty Everett coordinated the release and staging work. Both are coauthors of BRC-100, the standard interface through which BSV applications communicate with wallets.
